poor construction, sloppy design, and i have no idea how it cooks. why?
it broke before my first use.
the rotation blocking latch is flimsy and weak so the tray wobbles.
the tray wobbles and is unstable in either right side up or the upside down position.
the wobbling and the poor design means the lid doesn’t stay open and slams down.
and lastly and most importantly the main hinge broke off before my very first usage.
that’s right i never got to use it even once.
    it is absolute trash.

I noticed this waffle iron’s most significant design flaw as soon as I took it out of the box–the waffle grids can’t be removed for cleaning. The instruction manual recommends “wiping the grids with a soft cloth,” which anyone who has ever made a waffle will realize will do next to nothing to actually clean the iron. Since I don’t want to cook with a dirty waffle iron, I use a scrub brush over my sink to carefully wash the unplugged unit, and allow it to dry thoroughly between uses. This is not a great way to have to clean an electrical appliance, and I wish that it had snap-out grids as my older waffle iron has.

The waffles it produces cook evenly and are deeper than most waffle irons produce, but do not get very brown. Cooking a waffle on the highest setting for twice the recommended cooking time only gives me a lightly golden waffle. The ready light is useless, since it goes on and off at random, so I usually set a timer or wait until the steam stops to remove the waffle.

The swiveling part of the handle is also rather flimsy–mine hasn’t broken yet, but it has jammed or come off its track several times while it was hot, causing potentially hazardous inconveniences.

On the whole, I can’t recommend this product, primarily because of the difficulty in cleaning it. I used to make waffles every morning with my old waffle iron (with removable grids); cleaning this one is such a pain that I use it much less frequently. I really think that this is one of those kitchen appliances that is designed to be used once and then forgotten or thrown away.

  5. Savy Buyer says:

I am returning the second of two of these cheap waffle makers with a pretty high price.

The off and on and ready lights go wild thru a cook cycle and youcan’t tell if done or not.

the latest one was defective out of the box. the handle will not disengage from it’s cradle.
